Athens Hematology Oncology originally began in 1984 when Drs. Lemmon, Curran and their associates asked Tyler Hematology Oncology, P.A. to bring oncology services from Tyler to the Athens areas. From humble beginnings in the clean linen closet of Lakeland Hospital, our clinic moved to the outpatient area in the modern ETMC Athens facility. In 1999, Athens Center for Blood and Cancer Treatment opened its doors on the property of the ETMC Athens facility, providing full time physicians, laboratory and chemotherapy services. With a full range of oncology certified nurses, lab techs and support staff, the facility has grown to meet the needs of patients in the Athens/Henderson County area.

Upon moving to the current location in March, 2001, the clinic name was permanently changed to Athens Hematology Oncology. Dr. Maung M. Oo joined the group providing full time physician services in August 2005. Drs. Ashigbi, Droder and Martins continue to operate weekly clinics. Judy Hayes provides a weekly group counseling service and provides individual counseling services by appointment.
